PLEIN AIR WORKSHOP - PAINTINGS WILL BE MADE OUTDOORS
Join renowned artist Richard Sneary for an exciting 3-day plein air watercolor workshop in the heart of Greenville, Ohio's historic downtown. This workshop is designed to elevate your plein air painting skills and deepen your understanding of composition to create successful watercolor pieces in an outdoor setting.
Richard Sneary, a signature member of several prestigious societies including the American Watercolor Society, National Watercolor Society, and the American Impressionists Society, will guide students through the process of painting outdoors on location. With over a decade of experience as a professional painter and 40 years as an architect and architectural illustrator, Richard will begin the workshop leading sketching exercises to strengthen the foundation of your paintings. Richard will teach techniques to capture shapes, light, and contrast regardless of subject matter to create dynamic compositions and will address the unique challenges of working with watercolor en plein air.
Workshop Highlights:

Location: The workshop will start each day at the Anna Bier Gallery, located inside the beautiful St. Clair Memorial Hall, surrounded by the charm of Greenville's historic downtown. Students will also paint on location outdoors, capturing the vibrancy of the town.

Expert Instruction: Richard Sneary brings over 40 years of architecture and architectural illustration experience, including teaching architectural design and drawing at the University of Kansas and leading workshops across the country.

Techniques & Tips: Learn how to set aside the worries of “what” you are painting and begin to see everything as a combination of shapes and light to create a loose, impressionistic style paintings while maintaining structure and detail. Richard will provide valuable insights on color mixing, creating depth and contrast, and painting in different lighting conditions.

Individualized Attention: With a small class size, you'll receive personalized instruction and feedback from one of the top watercolorists in the nation to help you improve your plein air watercolor practice.

Materials: Students are required to bring their own supplies. A materials list will be provided.

RICHARD SNEARY ARTIST STATEMENT

Richard started painting professionally in 2011, after over 40 years as an architectural illustrator and architect. He has juried into and been invited to more than 100 plein air events and organized paint-outs since then. He is signature member of the American Watercolor Society, National Watercolor Society, Outdoor Painters Society, American Impressionists Society, Missouri and Kansas Watercolor Societies, & Missouri Valley Impressionists Society.
Richard taught architectural design and drawing at the University of Kansas from 1977 to 1985 and has led many workshops around the country.

Meet our Artistic Director of Visual Arts

Jennifer serves Darke County Center for the Arts as the Artistic Director of Visual Arts, coordinating the Anna Bier Art Gallery and overseeing the Darke County Public Art Trail.
As a practicing artist herself, Jennifer brings a wide array of experience to DCCA. She earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Otterbein University, specializing in Painting and Visual Communication. Her past experience includes working with both retail and government art galleries in Columbus, Ohio and serving as a Marketing Manager for a non-profit medical organization.
Jennifer’s own work is expressive, colorful, and is often inspired by the impressionists. She loves creating art that captures special memories for her clients or evokes a certain emotion that brings warmth and joy to a space. Her artwork is part of the permanent collections of two universities and the homes of private collectors in eight different states.
It is a true pleasure to bring fine art and visual arts experiences to the Darke County Community!
